About the speaker

Assoc. Prof. Oskan B. Tasinov is a molecular biologist, with specialty in biochemistry and researcher at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" in Varna, Bulgaria. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry (2015) and an MSc in Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies from Plovdiv University, following a BSc from Sofia University. Since 2023, he has been an Associate Professor.

His research focuses on oxidative stress, inflammation, insulin resistance, and molecular biomarkers in colorectal cancer, applying advanced methods such as qPCR, ELISA, and transcriptomic analysis. He has extensive experience in studying the biological effects of medicinal plants and cytotoxic agents, as well as gene expression in clinical and cell line experimental models.

Assoc. Prof. Tasinov has completed international specializations across Europe and is an active member of leading scientific organizations, including FEBS and NuGO. He has received multiple awards recognizing his contributions to biomedical research.

About the talk

Talk DescriptionNatural products such as red wine, honey and dwarf elder fruits-derived extracts are recognized as rich sources of bioactive compounds with antioxidant, immunomodulatory and antiviral properties. Based on these characteristics, a novel bioactive natural combination was developed within the framework of a recent patent application. The concept integrates complementary phytochemical profiles into a single formulation with enhanced functional potential. Experimental evaluation demonstrates high in vitro antioxidant activity and elevated polyphenolic content, alongside significant antiviral effects against influenza A virus, including both inhibition of viral replication and direct virucidal activity. Additionally, the formulation exhibits a favorable safety profile and stimulates immune cell viability, suggesting immunomodulatory potential. The results indicate synergistic interactions between the components and highlight the potential of this natural combination as a multifunctional approach for prevention and supportive management of conditions associated with oxidative stress and viral infections.
